ELAINE ELIZABETH CLARKE (née Furness)

ELAINE ELIZABETH CLARKE (née Furness) died peacefully after a short illness on June 12th, 2020. She was 92. She is survived by her husband, Anthony, four of her five children, fourteen of fifteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Elaine was born in Southport in 1928 and moved to London when she was 17, where, though she dreamed of becoming a journalist, she took up nursing. She married the Love of her life in 1952 and built a creative and fruitful life in her community, church, and in the publishing business. She lived and worked in Wheathampstead from 1969. Elaine will be greatly missed not only by her family but also by her friends in the village, at St. Thomas More Church, the Womens Institute, Harpenden Writers, and her many correspondents on four continents. There will be a private burial at Westfield Cemetery on July 10th, and a Celebration of Elaines Life at a later date.
