A family have been left ‘devastated’ after their beloved dog was ‘stolen’ on Wednesday (30).
Alfie, a 10-year-old Wheaten Terrier, was in the garden of a relative’s house in Drakes Drive, St Albans, where he regularly stays, when he was allegedly stolen.
Susan Giles, of St Albans, who owns Alfie, said that the dog is allowed in the garden with the gate closed but when the relative returned from ‘popping to the shop’ the gate was left open and the dog was gone.
She is sure that he was stolen because he is often left in the garden, and it would have been very difficult for him to escape without someone opening the gate.
She added that if he had escaped he is not very ‘road savvy’ and would likely have been found by now.
Alfie was taken between 3 and 4.30pm and is microchipped. Police have been informed, as have the local authorities.
Susan went on: “I just want him to be home, to be looked after, I just want to know that he’s alright.
“I’ve got two girls and it’s their pet and they’re devastated. I want the person who took him to think about how they would feel if it was their children’s pet that was taken.”
It had been thought that Alfie had been found in the Watford area, but Susan said that this was not Alfie and she had contacted the local authorities to verify this.
If you find Alfie, the dog warden can be contacted on 03444 828 346.
