A pop-up Christmas shop has been launched by a Wheathampstead Women's Institute (WI) in the village near St Albans.

The store is located on Wheathampstead's High Street, and will become Christmas-themed for 11 days during the festive season.

A community plant nursery, based near Codicote, will take over the shop during that time.

Making Life Beautiful provides work experience and training to those experiencing mental health challenges, physical illness or disability.

The nursery's project leader Isobel Barnes said: "We'll be selling all our plants - shrubs, cyclamen, winter pansies, heathers, cacti, and you can grow your own Christmas gifts, 10 tulip bulbs or 5 Hyacinths are £2.50 a packet.

"Plant them in a pot now and you have an attractive and economical gift to give."

Locally produced chutneys, honey, quince and apple jellies, lemon curd and artisan chocolates will also be sold.

This is alongside hand-crafted items such as bowls, pottery and glassware.

Isobel continued: "All items are locally sourced within Hertfordshire and helping many people whose businesses, and often their mental health, have suffered because of Covid.

"At Making Life Beautiful we also welcome volunteers who are fit and well and willing to share their expertise and care with others."

The pop-up shop, located at 29 High Street, will be open on November 15, November 21-23 and December 18-23, from 10am until 4.30pm.
