A charitable organisation in St Albans has been selected to take part in the UK's first 'charity superstore'.

Homelessness charity Emmaus Hertfordshire will be included in 'CharitySuper.Mkt' at Brent Cross Shopping Centre, London.

The store will bring multiple charities under the same roof, in the shopping centre's former Top Shop.

The shop will open on Friday, January 27, and will remain in place for four weeks.

Emmaus Hertfordshire will take part in the first two weeks of the event.

'Charity Super.Mkt' has hosted outdoor 'market style' pop-ups over the last two years, but will now be transforming disused high street premises.

Emmaus Hertfordshire's business development manager, Gemma Beckett, said: "We’re so excited to be part of the UK's first ever multi-charity shop in collaboration with a host of other great charities.

“It’s fantastic to be part of a trailblazing concept to transform empty retail premises and bring them back to life, while meeting the needs of the thriving charity retail sector and promoting a more sustainable, ethical and purposeful way of shopping."

'Charity Super.Mkt' founder Wayne Hemingway MBE added: “Charity shops are no longer a signal of decline in our town centres, they represent a powerful and positive movement towards the circular economy and a future that is being wholeheartedly embraced by consumers and contributes hundreds of millions of pounds to our economy, and good causes.

“Launching in Brent Cross puts charity shop fashion where it belongs, alongside the big, inspirational retailers like Apple and John Lewis in a destination where shoppers come for great retail experiences.”

Lastly, Sarah Tinsley, director of marketing and placemaking at Hammerson (joint owner and asset manager of Brent Cross Shopping Centre) commented: “This unique partnership underpins our strategy to launch a number of big market firsts across our portfolio this year.

Hertfordshire residents who wish to donate clothes to the store, may drop them off at any of Emmaus Hertfordshire's three stores.

These are located at Crosby Close in St Albans, London Road in Hemel Hempstead and High Street, Tring.
