The headmaster of a Harpenden school has said he is "very proud" after receiving an 'outstanding' rating by Ofsted.
Sir John Lawes School, in Manland Way, achieved the status when a report was published on Tuesday, May 23.
Prior to the report being published, inspections took place on March 28 and March 29.
The school achieved 'outstanding' status in all five categories reviewed by Ofsted.

These include the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and sixth-form provision.
The report is Sir John Lawes School's first since becoming an academy in 2012.
Prior to that, the establishment was rated as 'outstanding' in 2008.
The school's latest Ofsted report states: "Pupils are overwhelmingly positive about their school community.
"They say that the experiences, support and challenges that the school provides make a significant difference to their lives.
"Pupils’ experiences at this school are exceptional.
"They take part in an extraordinary choice of clubs, trips and opportunities, as well as giving to the wider community."
The actions of the school's pupils were also highlighted, as well as the expertise of its teachers.
The report continues: "Pupils care for each other.
"They learn ‘not to be a bystander’ and call out poor behaviour on the rare times it happens.

"...Teachers expertly deliver the key knowledge.
"They address misconceptions and build on pupils’ previous learning.
"They have high expectations of what pupils know and can do.
"Teachers provide personalised support, where needed, so that all pupils can succeed with their learning."
Sir John Lawes School's headteacher, Philip Newbery, said: "We are very proud of the achievement.
