St Albans Feastival - a six-hour street party featuring market stalls, cooking demonstrations and live music - is set to return to the city centre.

Thousands of residents and visitors to the city are expected at St Peters Street, Market Place and High Street this Sunday, September 24.

Around 100 market stalls will be set up for the occasion, offering "a vast variety of food and drink products" from local businesses.

A live cookery theatre will feature displays from local chefs, whilst a butchery demonstration is provided by Oaklands College.

A 'Create and Play Zone' will deliver arts and craft activities for children, and St Albans District musicians will perform.

A variety of street performers will also entertain guests.

The Feastival is now in its 16th year, and has been organised by St Albans City & District Council, with help from SA Law and St Albans BID.

The event is part-funded by the UK Government's 'UK Shared Prosperity Fund', which is set to provide £2.6 billion of funding for local investment across the country, by March 2025.

Cllr Lynn Cunningham said: "St Albans Feastival is one of the most popular city centre events of the year and I would advise people not to miss out.

“This is the community’s chance to show their support for our District’s fantastic food and drink businesses and sample some of their produce.

“Our hospitality sector is of immense importance to the local economy, attracting visitors and providing jobs, and this is a wonderful way to recognise their achievements.

“The Feastival is also an exciting occasion for people of all ages and backgrounds and we have made great efforts to ensure it is accessible to all.”

St Albans BID manager, Vivien Cannon, added: "Well known for its out of London foodie scene, St Albans punches high.

“The BID celebrates its hospitality business through supporting this event and its link to the Festival’s Food and Drink Awards when local businesses receive acknowledgement for their year-round food provision.”
