Plans to construct a bungalow in Harpenden have been refused by St Albans City and District Council.
The local authority's decision came on Tuesday, December 5, for the application which would have seen a three-bedroom dwelling constructed in Oakfield Road.
In a decision notice, St Albans City and District Council's strategic director for community and place delivery, Christine Traill, wrote: "The proposal to develop a restricted and subdivided plot will represent a cramped development of the site in a manner which does not reflect the character and setting of the surroundings, which comprises primarily of large dwellings on large plots.

"The proposal would fail to achieve an acceptable standard of environment."
This is in contrast to a planning statement included within the application, which claimed that the bungalow's "traditional style" would have been "in-keeping with the varied architectural styles of the immediate area".
The application can be viewed by using reference 5/2023/0199 on the St Albans City and District Council planning portal.
