Hertfordshire police are investigating reports of an illegal hunt near Wheathampstead.
A fox was reportedly killed by a pack of hounds in fields between Sheepcote Lane and Waterend Lane at around 3pm on Tuesday, February 6.
Using dogs to chase or kill foxes was made illegal in England and Wales with the 2004 Hunting Act.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary said: "Enquiries are ongoing at this time and anyone with information which may assist is being asked to please come forward.

"If you were in the area and saw what happened, we’d be keen to hear from you."
They confirmed that their Rural Operational Support Team has launched an investigation.
