Firefighters tackle large blaze at derelict Park Street home

At 9.47pm yesterday (Wednesday, April 24), firefighters were sent to a derelict house in Park Street Lane, where they were faced with a large fire in a two-storey building with flames breaking through the roof. 

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the blaze and remained at the scene until around 3am today (Thursday, April 25).

No injuries are reported to have taken place.

A spokesperson for the service said: "Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 9.47pm yesterday (Wednesday, April 24) to reports of a fire in a derelict house in Park Street Lane, Park Street, St Albans.

"Six fire engines were sent to the scene, where crews were faced with a large fire in a two-storey building, with flames breaking through the roof.

"As the house had previously been used by squatters, firefighters were initially concerned that there may be someone inside, but fortunately the house turned out to be empty.

"Firefighters extinguished the fire and remained at the scene until shortly after 3am damping down the scene."
