St Albans Abbey and Park Street stations going contactless next month

Passengers will be able to use their bank card or smartphone to pay for train travel at Watford North, Garston, Bricket Wood, How Wood, Park Street, St Albans Abbey, Kings Langley, and Apsley from Sunday, September 22.

The contactless technology will automatically charge them for the best adult fare for their journey on that particular date and time, which London Northwestern Railway said will be the same as a ticket bought on the day.

Contactless payment is already available at Watford Junction and Watford High Street Station. LNR customer experience director Jonny Wiseman said: “This welcome investment means even more of our passengers travelling in the south east of England will have access to pay as you go with contactless technology.

“This new way to pay will give our customers at these stations greater choice and flexibility over how they use the railway.”

The stations are among fourteen in the East of England to receive the technology next month, which also include Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead and Bletchley.
