Only four games went ahead in the Herts Ad Sunday League as the threatened weather forecast stirred up panic.
Councils and owners called most games off on Thursday as the Met Office predicted heavy snowfall.
In the end, that was way wide of the mark and the quartet of games were played in sunshine with temperatures pushing double figures.
And the matches served up plenty of entertainment and intrigue.
Three of the ones played were in the Premier Division and two of them involved Phoenix and Strafford Arms in a double header.
And with leaders Borehamwood Rovers one of those inactive, Arms took full advantage by claiming six points and going top of the standings.
In the opening game, a double from Stephen Dodd and one for Erivaldo Felix helped them to a 3-0 success.
Felix then hit a hat-trick in the second game, as did Jaden Newman, as the Arms ran out 7-2 winners.
Cameron Thomas got the other while the Phoenix’s goals came from Jason Bryant and Josh Peddar.
Arms now have a three-point lead over Borhamwood and a much better goal difference but have played a game more.
The other game was a Harpenden derby between Plough & Harrow and Skew Bridge, and it ended with a point each after a 2-2 draw.
Dave Keenleyside scored twice for Skew with Josh Panther and Chris Dunn on target for Plough.
It leaves Plough third, one point behind Borehamwood but having played three games more, while Skew are fourth, a further four points adrift.
The remaining game came in Division One and a 4-2 win for Brookmans Park over Wheathampstead Wanderers helped strengthen their title credentials.
They are now three points off leaders Mermaid and with two games in hand.
The absence of Adam Page, Park's leading scorer, was offset by a stunning display by Charlie Nelson.
He scored all four, two first-half headers added to by a 30-yard lob and another, more routine strike after the break.
Wanderers did score two late goals, one from Josh Walton and an excellent overhead kick by Jordan Cornes, but the defeat leaves them sixth in the table with 16 points from their 14 games.
