City of St Albans Swimming Club just missed out on top spot in Division One of the Herts Major League after a titanic struggle with Hatfield.
The third and final round took place at Stevenage Swim Centre and after victory in the previous two rounds, CoStA knew they were in a good position against the six strongest teams in the division.
They got off to a good start too, male captain for the night Alexander Kalverboer taking the win in the 100m individual medley which was backed up by an excellent swim from the female captain, Sophie Holliss.
The squad continued to put in some outstanding efforts and after 10 events, they were tied with Hatfield at the top of the standings.
The remainder of the gala proved just as tight but it was Hatfield who edged away, finally winning by 36 points from St Albans in second with Potters Bar and Stevenage tied for third, a further 62 points adrift.
Watford and Hoddesdon were the other two clubs involved.
