Managerless St Albans City should have taken all three points after holding runaway National League South leaders Yeovil Town to a draw.
Jon Meakes took charge following the departure of David Noble to Wealdstone on Friday and the caretaker boss saw his side battle to a 1-1 draw at Clarence Park.
Jordan Young had put the Glovers in front after 19 minutes but Mitchell Weiss levelled two minutes into the second half.
And Meakes explained that there wasn't much in the way of changes he needed to make.
He said: "It was short notice and [David's] got the move to go into full-time football.
"The team didn't play any different and there was nothing major that I had to do with."
And on the performance, he added: "I'm very proud of the team but I'm gutted we've not picked up three points with the performance we've put in, especially in the second half.
"There was a togetherness. We gave the ball away too many times in the first half and they countered on us really well.
"But once we got hold of the game, that's when we created the chances.
"And we had three glorious chances in the first half to have gone into half-time in front.
"They hit the post but we had better chances."
