St Albans own Phoebe Gill is set to take the Paris Olympics by storm - but when will she be in action and how can you watch?

The 17-year-old superstar was named in Team GB's Athletics squad after winning the 800m title at the British Athletics Championships last month.

Born in St Albans, she attends St George's School in Harpenden and has been tipped for big things in her career.

When will Phoebe Gill be competing at Paris 2024?

The games got under way at the weekend after Friday's (July 26) opening ceremony, but the track and field events don't begin until later this week.

Phoebe will take part in the women's 800m event, which means your first glimpse of her will come on the evening of Friday, August 2.

The hometown girl will be in action in one of the six heats that take place at the Stade De France on Friday night.

We won't know until the night before which heat Phoebe will run in, but they take place every eight minutes from 6.45pm until 7.25pm.

The fastest three runners in each heat will qualify for the semi finals.

If Phoebe makes it through the heats, those semi finals take place between 7.30pm and 8pm on Sunday, August 4.

The two fastest athletes from each semi final will qualify for the final, as will the two fastest runners overall who finish outside of those places.

If Phoebe makes the final on her Olympic debut, she'll compete at 8.45pm on Monday, August 5.

This is where the medals are handed out and a top three finish would see the teenager bring a medal back home to Hertfordshire.

How can you watch the action - and why might it not be on the BBC?

Traditionally, the BBC has been the home of the games and where you might expect to find all the key moments from the fortnight.

But in 2015, Warner Brothers Discovery struck a lucrative deal with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that saw them become the exclusive home of the Olympics in Europe from 2020.

But the games are one of a select few events protected by the so-called 'Crown Jewel' laws - meaning they have to be shown on terrestrial television due to their cultural significance.

As a result, a compromise has been made allowing the BBC to show a heavily reduced output from Paris.

While live action will be available on BBC One and a bonus iPlayer feed, the rules restrict the broadcaster from screening more than two live events at once.

This means that it is impossible for all events involving British athletes to be shown live.

As a result, some of Phoebe's events may be shown later in the day or even not at all, depending on the day's other events.
