Mathew Timothy Major It is with the deepest sadness we announce the death of Mathew Major, on Monday 17 April 2023, aged just 65, from cancer. Mathew was a wonderful brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, godfather and friend to so many people. He will be missed beyond words. Born in St.Albans, he was a pupil at Nicholas Breakspear School, where he made lasting friendships. As a teenager, his love of history led him to become the youngest guide at St.Albans Cathedral at that time. He worked in the recycling industry all his life and ran several successful businesses. He made the move to Brighton over 30 years ago, to develop his career, most recently as Director of WMR Solutions. Whilst he loved his work, his passion was football. He previously held roles as a sponsor, director, chairman and even owner of various football clubs in Sussex and Oxfordshire. In 2014 he was appointed Chairman of Sussex County Football Association and more recently Football Association Representative. We invite family and friends to celebrate Mathew's life on Friday 12th May 2023, at the Downs Crematorium, Bear Road, Brighton, BN2 3PL and afterwards at the American Express Community Stadium, Village Way, Brighton, BN1 9BL in the Heineken lounge. Mathew was a huge advocate and supporter of disability football.
