St Albans' latest Indian Restaurant - Tikka Nation - promises Indian street food, curry bowls and wraps.

Tikka Nation, which has now been open for four weeks, is located on the site of the old 'Crunch' coffee shop on Waxhouse Gate.

The location is the sixth in a chain of restaurants owned by St Albans local Vikas Narula.

Mr Narula said: "Being a local person, we wanted to open this for quite a long time.

"We saw a gap in the market for Indian street food, which is something that we have eaten all our lives.

"We don't find it here, you have to go inside London to find those places."

Asked what makes Tikka Nation unique, Vikas added: "It is a very casual environment.

"With many Indian restaurants, you can go once in a week or at a weekend, and there is heavy food.

"We wanted to bring light food.

"You can have it as lunch, you can have it for an afternoon snack, you can have it for dinner as well.

"So we've got choices for all day."

Speaking about his background as a St Albans local, Vikas confirmed that he has lived in the city for over 10 years.

He continued: "My wife teaches here, at the St Albans Boys School, and my daughter goes to a chior here and studies at the Abbey School next door.

"It is a close community, and we felt like we can be part of this community for a long time.

"That is why we wanted to have something here...

"...We always wanted to open in St Albans, it just took a while to find the right space, the right spot, and all that."

When he's not running restaurants, Vikas likes to play cricket in the summer and badminton in the winter, whilst spending as much time with his family as possible.

Tikka Nation is open daily, as an eat-in restaurant or for delivery.
