At this time the building is still in use, with a final service taking place on March 11, at 2.30pm.
Following this, the locally listed building will be sold by its owners, the Thames North Synod of The United Reformed Church.
Speaking to The Herts Advertiser, representatives of both Homewood Church and Trinity Church confirmed that all profits made by the sale will be used in the local area, by The United Reformed Church.
The decision to merge the congregations came due to a lack of numbers, and rising costs due to the building's upkeep.
Votes were held by members of Trinity Church, Homewood Church and Greenwood Church.
96 per cent of Trinity Church members voted for joining Homewood Church, with 100 per cent of Homewood Church's members voting for the change.
Another of St Albans United Reformed Church's premises, Greenwood Church was created when Bricket Wood Church merged with Chiswell Green.
A spokesperson for St Albans United Reformed Church said: "January 8 saw the coming together of all the United Reformed Churches in St Albans as a single new church on two sites.
"Over 100 members and friends were present to celebrate the moment at the inaugural service led by our minister Revd John Hardaker in the Homewood building just off Sandpit Lane.
"Our other site in Chiswell Green, known as Greenwood, will also hold services and a range of activities to serve the people of south St Albans.
"The former Trinity church building in Beaconsfield Road will eventually be sold.
"The new church will try to live out Christ's mission in a new way, working with local communities reaching out to people of all ages."
A number of projects and practices formerly conducted by Trinity Church have also made the move to Homewood Church, along with items from the church building itself.
Further information about the move, and the churches services, can be found on at stalbansurc.org.
