Barbieland is in Hertfordshire! Barbie movie filmed in Herts

The forthcoming Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and La La Land's Ryan Gosling was filmed in Hertfordshire, with scenes shot at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.

The film and TV studio complex near Watford confirmed Barbie was made there in a social media post following the release of the movie's official teaser trailer.

"This production turned Leavesden into Barbie Land!" posted WBSL.

"We loved being home to @barbiethemovie and can’t wait to see it on the big screen this summer. #BarbieTheMovie #FilmedAtWBSL"

From Oscar-nominated writer/director Greta Gerwig, of Lady Bird and Little Women fame, Barbie stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken respectively.

Australian actress Margot Robbie played Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, was Oscar nominated for I, Tonya, was in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and recently appeared in Babylon, while Blade Runner 2049 star Ryan Gosling was nominated for Academy Awards for Half Nelson and La La Land.

The Barbie movie cast also includes Saturday Night Live comedian Kate McKinnon, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World's Michael Cera, and Anchorman legend Will Ferrell.

It also features Sex Education star - and the new Doctor Who - Ncuti Gatwa, Bridgerton and Derry Girls favourite Nicola Coughlan, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Dua Lipa, and Oscar-winner Dame Helen Mirren.

Gerwig directed Barbie from a screenplay by herself and Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach, based on Barbie by Mattel.

Barbie the movie is set for release on July 21, 2023.
