Three men have been charged following a "short pursuit" in Hemel Hempstead.

The incident took place on Wednesday (April 5), when Hertfordshire police received reports of several thefts from motor vehicles.

Catalytic converters and tools had been reported as stolen, during the alleged incidents.

A short time later, a vehicle of interest was identified and located.

As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, it "made off".

Following a short pursuit, three people attempted to flee on foot before being detained.

Barney Joyce - a 20-year-old from Hemel Hempstead - has since been charged with conspiracy to steal from motor vehicles, going equipped for theft, failing to stop for police, dangerous driving and driving other than in accordance with a licence.

Thomas Kiely - a 29-year-old from Welshpool - and Jordan Joyce - 23, from Leicestershire - have been charged with conspiracy to steal from motor vehicles and going equipped for theft.

All three individuals were remanded into custody on Saturday (April 8).

They are due to appear at St Albans Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, May 9.

DS Yolanda Morales-Willis said: "This is great example of how calls from vigilant members of the public can assist police in making quick time enquiries and arrests.

“Three people have been charged as a result and the case is now progressing through the courts.”
