A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary described the purpose of these patrols as "to crack down on anti-social behaviour by groups of individuals that are being intimidating, smoking drugs or being a general nuisance to the public".

The St Albans chief inspector, Ady Lysak, has provided an update regarding the recent occurances in the city's parks.

He said: "We are investigating two assaults in Clarence Park.

"We have continued regular high visibility patrols in the park.

"We are appealing for members of the public to help us identify the offenders causing the issues in Clarence Park so they can be dealt with.

"We are also aware of issues in other parks, including Longacres and again, are appealing for witnesses to the assault on March 19.”
