A man has been charged after an alleged acid attack at a supermarket in Hertfordshire.
Herts Police said the victim suffered blistering after a substance, believed to be an acidic solution, was reportedly thrown over them at the Tesco Extra in Shenley Road, Borehamwood. Both parties are believed to know each other.
It happened between 6am and 6.30am on July 15, before being reported to officers four months later.
Today (December 11), Detective Constable Ben Nash, from the Local Crime Unit, said: “Due to the distressing nature of this assault, the victim did not feel comfortable reporting it to us straight away.
“However, following the launch of our investigation at the end of November, our dedicated team of detectives have now secured a successful charge, with the case preparing to progress through the court system.”
He said enquiries are continuing and urged witnesses to contact police.
“We understand that a member of the public may have intervened in Tesco, and we would like this person to please make themselves known to us to help with the investigation,” DC Nash added.
Lemuel Browne, 64, from Shenley Road, Borehamwood, has been charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm, causing or administering a poison/noxious thing with intent to injure/aggrieve/annoy, and possession of a controlled Class B drug (Cannabis).
He was remanded into custody ahead of a court appearance on January 3.
