The planning committee at St Albans district council has refused plans to demolish a bungalow to construct three new homes in the city.
On Thursday, December 7, the application for one detached and two semi-detached houses in Westfields was denied by the local authority, due to its "cramped form of development".
The height and scale of the proposed homes, a "poor standard of amenity" and the properties' impact on neighbouring houses were also given as reasons for the council's decision.

The decision follows 65 public comments on the application, with one stating that the development would not be in-keeping with the rest of the road and would "dwarf" neighbouring properties.
A planning statement attached to the plans stated that the proposed development would have made "a modest but important contribution towards the shortfall in housing provision" that is required by national policy.
