Harpenden & District Local History Society is marking its 50th anniversary with an open day and the official opening of the town's new museum.
The open day will take place from 11am to 3pm on Saturday, April 20 at the Eric Morecambe Centre.
Visitors can enjoy exhibitions on the history of Harpenden and district, displays from town societies, a children's competition and history talks for adults and children throughout the day.
The event will be presided over by Annie Brewster, High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in nomination.
Entry to the museum is free and both members and non-members are welcome, with no booking required.
The society's aims are to 'educate the public in the local history of Harpenden and district' and to 'make a valuable contribution to the cultural life of Harpenden'.

Harpenden Museum, which is situated on the lower floor of the Eric Morecambe Centre, was made possible thanks to a bequest from the late Les Casey.
The museum is open from 10am to 4pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10am to 6pm, and at other times by appointment.
Among the collections are artefacts, documents, photos and artwork reflecting Harpenden's history from an early settlement to a commuter town.
