Three fire engines have attended a "well alight" car at a section of roadworks on the M1.
The incident took place at 12.12pm today (Wednesday, April 10) between Junction 9 for Redbourn and Junction 8 for Hemel Hempstead.
Long delays were reported by Hertfordshire County Council, with lane closures in place as a result of the blaze.
These delays have since been cleared.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 12.12pm this afternoon to multiple reports of a car on fire on the southbound M1, between junctions 9 and 8.
"Three fire engines from Markyate, Hemel Hempstead and St Albans fire stations were sent to the scene, where crews found one car well alight on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire County Council later confirmed: "Delays have been cleared on the M1 southbound between Junction 9 for Redbourn and Junction 8 for the A414 and Hemel Hempstead.
"All lanes open after the earlier vehicle fire in the roadworks area."
