Wheathampstead u3a (University of the Third Age) recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary with a 1960s-themed party.

The celebration took place earlier this month at Marford Memorial Hall, coinciding with the appearance of the northern lights.

Around 100 people attended the event, and danced the night away to the 'Simply 60s' band.

A prize was given out for the most authentic 60s outfit, which was won by Caroline Pickett for her pink and white flower power dress with matching headband and shocking pink tights.

Another prize was awarded to the table with the most correct answers to a 60s-themed quiz.

The Swan pub also provided a bar, which was manned by Sally and Emily.

High Sheriff of Hertfordshire Annie Brewster, a former Wheathampstead councillor, joined the celebrations in full regalia - using her ceremonial sword to cut the anniversary cake alongside current and former u3a chairs Chrissie Chadney and Brian Pearce.

A u3a spokesperson said: "We're now looking forward to the next 10 years of 'learning, laughing and living' with our wonderful u3a. 

The u3a is part of a UK-wide movement which encourages people no longer in full-time work to come together and learn about subjects that interest them.
