St Albans leisure centres have won a spate of awards with several centres across the region recognised for their excellence.

The St Albans region won the 'contract of the year' award at last week's Everyone Active national awards.

It was a golden night for the areas leisure sector as Westminster Lodge bagged the sales team of the year award and Harpenden Leisure Centre won both the health and safety team of the Year and the fitness team of the year.

The gongs come two years after Everyone Active took over running several of the leisure venues in the area.

Steve Cox, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “We have fantastic teams at the centres and I’m extremely proud of all of our people at every centre in the region.

"This award recognises the incredibly hard work they have put in since we won the contract two years ago, and I’m delighted their passion and dedication has paid off.”

In January 2023 Westminster Lodge received a £1m cash injection that saw it receive an upgraded 200-station gym, group exercise studios, children’s soft play area, café, and crèche.

Centre manager at Westminster Lodge Lesley Garner added: “Everyone at Westminster lodge is over the moon to have this acknowledgement of their work.

"We’re all so proud of the centre and what we achieve here. Not only is it a centre of excellence in the world of fitness and health and a huge part of local peoples' weekly lives, it’s also a place that supports many local charities and is an important part of the local community.”
