A man  has been taken to hospital after cars smashed into a shop front  in Harpenden High Street early this morning.

The fire service were called at 2.24am, with Herts Fire and Rescue attending the scene with pumps from Harpenden and Redbourn fire stations.

The service confirmed that nobody was trapped in either car and one person was taken to hospital to be checked over.

A spokesperson for the Hertfordshire police said: "Police were called at 2.20am today  to reports of a road traffic collision in Harpenden High Street. A silver Ford Fiesta had been in collision with a parked black Audi A5 and a building.

"Officers attended alongside the Herts Fire & Rescue Service and the East of England Ambulance Service."

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance service said: "We were called at 2.17am with reports of a collision in High Street, Harpenden. We sent an ambulance, rapid response vehicle and ambulance officer vehicle.

"One man was taken to Luton and Dunstable Hospital for further care."

Herts police stated that the High Street was reopened at around 10.15am.
