Environmentalist and broadcaster Martin Palmer will lead a seminar on the role of pilgrimage in the 21st century ahead of the Alban Pilgrimage.
The 'Conscious Pilgrimage' talk will take place at Marlborough Road Methodist Church from 2pm to 4.30pm on Friday, June 21, the day before the annual pilgrimage returns to St Albans.
Martin will explore ways in which pilgrimage reconnects people with the natural world, which he sees as increasingly important for the health of both people and the planet.
With personal experience of some of the world's major pilgrimages, Martin will share thoughts on how their environmental footprint can be better managed.
The seminar is part of a week-long programme by the St Albans School of Philosophy, which has offered philosophy courses for the past 50 years.

From Sunday, June 16, students from the school will walk the pilgrimage route from St Paul's Cathedral in London to St Albans Cathedral.
Event organiser Nigel Pate, leader of the St Albans School of Philosophy, said: "Our world is facing crises in environmental and mental health.
"Can reconnecting with nature through pilgrimage help us with both? These are questions of prime importance today and we look forward to exploring them in depth with Martin Palmer."
