An elderly Radlett resident has expressed her dismay towards Hertsmere Borough Council after a sewage spill on a road near her address was left untreated for almost two months.

Trixy Tilsiter, of Letchmore Road, contacted the Herts Ad after the leak had been left unresolved for several weeks.

Trixy says she reported the leak to the council on June 28, after it had been "getting worse" for almost a month.

She says that she assumed somebody would have already reported, but contacted the council after seeing the problem worsen.

Eventually, she was told that parts would be coming from outside the UK, delaying action further.

Trixy has described the leak as "horrible", adding that "it's certainly not very nice to be forced to walk through sewage."

She expressed her frustration, saying: "There has been barely any communication from them, they didn't tell us what was going on.

"I contacted them at the end of June and didn't hear anything back initially, it's poor communication. You report these things and then you don't hear a thing back."

A spokesperson for Hertsmere Borough Council said: “Following a resident’s report of leakage from a pumping station, which serves a number of properties in the Loom Lane and Cobden Hill area, the parts required to carry out repair were ordered and these have now arrived in the UK.

“The installation of these new parts is scheduled for early next month. In the meantime, the pumping station’s tank has been emptied so there should be no further leakage on to the adjacent ground which has now dried out.”

As of today (July 26), Trixy says the sewage has stopped, but that she remains unimpressed by the length of time the problem took to resolve.
