A St Albans cat rescue has asked for help from the public following news that it will lose its home.
Rachel's Rescues started using a Park Street bungalow to house its cats in November last year.
However, the probate on the unused property is set to expire on Sunday, October 13, leaving founder, Rachel Payne, 34, under pressure to rehouse the 12 cats in her care.
She said: "It's a devastating situation especially as its coming to winter.
"If I can't continue I would feel like a failure, as none of the bigger companies can do what I can for these cats."
Due to the larger companies requiring extensive paperwork, Rachel believes that many cats could be left without emergency care if she is forced to shut down.
"People are relying on us massively, if I get a phone call I will get in my car and grab that cat, even if it's 1am.
"Other companies can’t do that because it is a whole process for them."
In the last year the charity has rescued over 200 abandoned cats.
All the funds for the cat rescue come from Rachel's pocket as she balances working three days a week at The Rennie Grove Peace Hospice and her cat passion project.
Due to this, she felt the bungalow was the lucky break that allowed her to start the charity.
"A lady passed away and she didn't have any executors from her friends and family therefore, the neighbours took charge of the property.
"We knew them, and kindly they let us use the property for the cat rescue."
Currently, Rachel has two cats left to re-home and a further two to rescue before her moving out deadline, and she does not wish to stop helping out felines for good.
"I would breakdown, it's something I enjoy doing and find rewarding," she added.
"If there are any properties that people don’t use or places going out on probate please get in touch."
