Sidhu Redbourn Taekwondo Club sent two competitors to the British championship and both returned with medals.
Held at the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, 12-year-old Zara Fitzgerald was competing in the U14 age group while Amrit Sahota went in the senior male category.
Competition was extremely tough with competitors from the UK, Holland, Italy and Ireland.
But Fitzgerald, a Year 8 pupil at St George’s School in Harpenden, excelled in the sparring section, winning a bruising encounter in the final to beat an athlete from the Netherlands and claiming the gold medal and British title.
She also competed in the patterns where she won silver, losing out to the same 13-year-old Dutch competitor.
Sahota was outstanding in his first sparring competition, earning a silver, and he followed it up with bronze in the patterns.
