A combined team from St Albans Athletics Club and St Albans Striders took on the SEAA Road Relay.
With 12 stages or legs, half over 4.8k and half over 7.2k, each club sent six men to see if they were strong enough to take on the best of the South and qualify from the nationals next month in Birmingham.
And with teenagers among the squad, they managed 23rd place with the fastest long leg coming from Alex McDonald and quickest short leg by Dillon Smith.
Eva Ilari Barampouti led the women’s team to sixth at the end of the first stage, one of six, and they eventually finished 10th.
She was joined by Keira Stern, Lily Tse, Grace Milnes, Freya Weddell and Lily Search.
James McMurray's first time over 13.1 miles at the Wilmslow Half saw him smash the club record and finish fifth, clocking one hour six minutes 10 seconds.
Chris Wrighton ran 1:16:42 to win the Lee Valley Half Marathon while Katherine Henderson completed the Hillingdon 20 mile event in 2:43, winning the Herts County 35-44 Championship.
Andy Jordan also came first in his 60-69 age category while Adam Dunbavand was second in the 20-39 category, all picking up county medals.
