Wet weather played its part in the fixture list for bowls clubs.

St Albans Bowling Club's men were looking build on the passage to the Jones Cup final one week earlier but their scheduled game at Townsend was cancelled due to heavy rain.

Sunday's fixture at Luton West End was played though as dry and windy conditions prevailed.

And in a mixed triples friendly played across five rinks, St Albans won on two of them but lost 81-69.

Top rink for the Clarence Park club was a 19-10 success for Irene Humphrey, Ambrose Tan and Andy Kay.

However, there was nothing but blue skies and sunshine for Harpenden as they landed the St Albans & District Bob Vise Trophy.

Played at Potters Bar, Harpenden met Batchwood for a match played across four formats - singles, pairs, triples and rinks.

There wasn't much between them either, with the contest only decided on the last few woods put up on two rinks.

It left Harpenden winners by five points to three but the tightness of the match was shown elsewhere, Harpenden winning 68-64 in shots but losing 37-35 on ends won.

The Harpenden side comprised David Brookes, Joe Festa, Trevor Glanfield, Neil Herrington, Stephen Maynard, Brian Moores, Nick Muir, Roy Polley, Tony Redford, and Trevor Tharby.
