Colney Heath's slow recovery continued after a second win in the last four unbeaten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division games.
The Magpies had lost seven league games until a row until putting an end to the rot with a 6-0 win over Shefford Town & Campton.
Two 1-1 draws followed before this latest success, 2-0 at home to FC Romania, moved them up to 11th.
There were still concerns and still chances going begging, and for the second week running they ended with 10 men, two yellow cards ending Lee Dyke's afternoon 10 minutes early, but the three points were well deserved.
The goals came in the first half, a succession of free-kicks eventually saw one swung over by Jamie Fulton and swept in by Sam Ejjayha.
That was on 10 minutes and it was 2-0 on 33.
Dykes won the ball and then played a great pass straight down the middle to George Hughes, who ran in and shot past the static Dren Hoti.
In the second half the Magpies continued to create chances.
New signing Archie Sayer had a cracking curling strike superbly stopped by Hoti and Jamie Willing was inches away from finding the former Arlesey Town man with a low cross.
Willing also sent a shot just over but the Mags closed out the win in relative comfort.
Harpenden Town warmed up for their big FA Vase clash away to Dereham Town on Saturday with a 2-1 win at Winslow United.
Danny Webb and Dan Palmer got the goals but it was Dave Keenleyside who took the plaudits with a man of the match performance.
Harpenden's women picked up another three points too to stay well clear at the top of the Eastern Region Division On North.
They beat Stevenage Res 3-0 and took the lead when Chloe Dinsey and Natalie Cloy combined to set up Jaime Curtain, who held off the challenge of Amana Oguntuga before firing the ball low past keeper Shannon Alderman from 12 yards.
The returning Sophie Harris had to make a couple of smart saves to keep Harpenden in front but at the other end, only the outside of the post prevented Sophia Amanor from doubling the lead.
The second did arrive before half-time though, Dinsey striking a free-kick with such venom that Alderman never had a chance to stop.
Stevenage did hit the bar in the second half through Ebba Taylor-Pugh but Amanor hit the post again for Harps, who also had young Edith Perryer making an impressive debut.
The third arrived in stoppage time, Amanor finally finding the net with a low shot into the bottom corner.
St Albans Schools had three games with two wins.
The first came against Chiltern & South Bucks in the Geoff Richards League, where a hat-trick from Freddie Moule paved the way for a 5-1 success.
Fionn Harrington and a rare goal for Patrick Roberts completed the victory, with Max Nicholson-Wolfe and Moule taking the player of the match prize.
There was a wonderful meeting between Saints' U10s and Stevenage Academy at Harvesters, one the hosts eventually won 3-2.
Stevenage had most of the possession as expected and went in front but St Albans created daylight with goals from Thomas Wainer, man of the match Jack Williams and Frankie Poll.
A late second for Stevenage made it a tense end but Saints hung on the for the win.
The Yellows seemed set to join in with the wins when they travelled to Merton in a representative match.
At half time they were 4-2 in front as Calum Leith bagged a hat trick and Joshua John curled a beauty into the top corner.
But they conceded five without reply in the second half to lose 7-4, although pleasingly, they still created plenty of opportunities.
Men of the match were Albie Trollope and John.
